Open invitation for researchers to be involved in the COST Action
Interdisciplinary research and collaboration are a precondition to solve the grand societal challenges confronting societies and the planet today. The complexity and interweavement of challenges, possible solutions and related actions ask for true interdisciplinary approaches – in research and in applications. Despite frequent calls to foster interdisciplinary research, active collaboration including knowledge exchange to date remains rare. The INTREPID COST Action focuses on understanding and addressing these challenges in research programing and related funding at all levels, whether regional, national, European or global. It looks at contemporary urban challenges as a case study arena increasingly requiring interdisciplinary approaches.
The overall aim of the 4-year INTREPID COST Action is to promote understanding on how to achieve more efficient and effective interdisciplinary research in Europe, in order to enhance Europe’s capacity to meet key societal challenges, with a particular focus on urban development.
The INTREPID COST Action will bring together communities of researchers, and research/science policy makers, and research-funding bodies contributing to advance our understanding and effective application of interdisciplinarity. A range of actions is designed to draw upon the network’s knowledge of barriers, as well as success and good practices, leading to the building of a critical mass of researchers and funders working to strengthen the European Research Area’s capacity to promote, commission, execute and evaluate interdisciplinary research.
The following activities will take place under the INTREPID COST Action:
- training schools
- stakeholder workshops
- Short-Term Scientific Missions
Call for researchers involvement in INTREPID COST Action activities
All COST Actions are open to involvement by a wide variety of stakeholders, including researchers, mainly from Europe but in some cases more internationally. Researchers with an interest in participating in one or more of the activities listed above, such as training schools, conferences, short-term scientific missions, and publications, are encouraged to subscribe to the INTREPID COST Action information bulletins in order to find out how to become involved in the Action.
Benefits for researchers
There is a wide variety of benefits for researchers being involved in the INTREPID COST Action, such as:
- access to new networks of academics, practitioners and funding agencies involved in interdisciplinary research on urban development;
- access to a new knowledge dissemination platform, in which research theories, methods, and findings related to interdisciplinary research on urban development can be shared
- opportunities to influence the future research agenda on interdisciplinarity and urban development
- access to new publication opportunities for academic audiences as well as for urban policy-makers and officials in research-funding agencies
Researchers with an interest in participating in the INTREPID COST Action should subscribe by filling the form available at: http://intrepid-cost.ics.ulisboa.pt/stakeholder.html. This will allow them to receive the information bulletins which will be periodically produced during the COST Action. These bulletins will provide detailed information about forthcoming events and opportunities for involvement in activities related to the INTREPID COST Action.
