Interest and/or practice of interdisciplinarity:
Based on my experience I have been involved in interdisciplinary approaches within the field of teaching, researching and practice-oriented learning.
a) Teaching: The master of Urban Design at the Technical University of Berlin is an interdisciplinary approach both from the constellation of students as well as the program bridging the institute of Architecture, institute of urban landscape, institute of sociology and institute of urban and regional planning.
b) Researching: Apart from my own involvement in DFG projects with interdisciplinary teams – largely failing to react common ground, I am part of a EU funded network of Urban Laboratories+: http://www.urbanlabplus.eu/ The aim of that network is to rethink the curricula of urban studies programs in terms of increasing interdisciplinarity and practices-oriented learning. Currently, I am writing a research proposal to work on trans-disciplinarity in urban studies.
c) Practice-oriented learning is a method that I have been applying since my engagement in the Urban Management Program at the TU Berlin. Part of the curricula involves a contracted work for the German development cooperation (Gesellschaft für International Zusammenarbeit, GIZ). Here, not just the team of students is highly interdisciplinary (it is a post-professional master, minimum of 2 years’ experience), but also the actors involved on the ground includes local municipalities, etc.
